Corowa, a little country town of 5000 people, nestled between Albury and Yarrawonga on the banks of the Murray River, has one of the country's top 100 golf courses.
Owner of Corowa Golf Club Motel is Les Thomson. His motel is situated right on the golf course.
It attracts thousands of visitors from all over Australia who each year travel to the region to sample the golf, the climate and the friendly relaxed country atmosphere.
"There are several golf courses in this area which consistently rate very highly in the Australian Golf Digest's top 100 and Corowa is one of them," he said.
"In the areas between Mildura and Albury, there would be at least 20 top quality courses which are a mecca for golfers from as far away as the Northern Territory and Western Australia.
"There's plenty of water to keep the magnificent courses green, the climate is beautiful all year-round and perfect for golf (not too hot or too cold) and, of course, it's in the country with its quiet, relaxing lifestyle."
The double-storey motel, with some rooms overlooking the golf course and others over the river, has 35 single, double and family rooms.
"Although most of our guests are golfers, those who are not may like to try river fishing, spend some time on a houseboat or enjoy our tennis and squash courts," he said.
Breakfast is served to the rooms and guests may choose to have lunch or their evening meal in the Corowa Golf Club, of which the motel is a part.
It's not only the human visitors who enjoy the food. Friendly kookaburras turn up for their share of bacon rind each morning and there are regular fly-pasts of magpies and colourful parrots.
The bistro at the complex is named The Pelican in honour of a feathered friend which visits whenever it is in the neighbourhood.
There are mid-week or weekend packages for golfers which include accommodation, breakfast, golf, evening meal and use of the facility's pool, sauna, spa and gym with tennis or squash available if required.
"Not only is Corowa in the centre of the golfing region, our motel is close to some of Australia's best wine-producing areas in Australia and it is full of history," Mr Thomson said.
"This town is actually the birthplace of federation where the governments of the day, of NSW and Victoria, came together in 1901 to sign documents to make Australia a federation.
"We have some lovely old historic buildings and there's plenty here for history buffs."
