The Age

Saturday November 8, 2003

Peter Barrett

Enjoy two days of food and wine at Rutherglen's Young Bloods & Bloody Legends Weekend in the Murray Valley, close to Albury-Wodonga.

Reward yourself for the three-hour drive tonight with an olive oil tasting session at 6.30pm followed by the Golden Olive Awards Dinner at 7pm to honour the winning table olives and extra virgin olive oil from the north-east Victorian region.

Bring a picnic blanket for brunch tomorrow at the Rutherglen Producers Picnic & Market, which gets underway on the lawns adjacent to the Rutherglen Wine Experience from 11am. It will feature more than 50 wine and food stalls, live music and demonstrations by local craftspeople.

Watch as blacksmiths make wine racks and glass holders or learn the tricks to making your own wine and port barrels.

The local hospitality industry will be squaring off with Nigel Watson from Melbourne's Jimmy Watson's Wine Bar at 1pm for the annual waiters race.

Meanwhile, rides, face painting and a miniature trains will entertain the kids until around 4pm when the day draws to a close. -- Peter Barrett
